The Academy Awards and Racial Bias

Following Regina King, Mahershala Ali, Spike Lee, and Green Book‘s big win at the Academy Awards on Sunday night, many people may be tempted to think the Oscar’s long history of racial bias may be behind them. And while these wins should be celebrated and considered a step in the right direction, the Oscars still have a long way to go.



Take the above infographic for instance, pulled from an article published by The Economist. As you can see, the racial demographics of Oscar winners tend to lean to white way. As future content creators and industry professionals, it is our duty to make sure the projects we work on are inclusive of all people, regardless of race, sex, or any other characteristics.
